Colorectal cancer screening programme (PDOCCR)

I received an invitation or a FIT kit in a language I do not understand. Can I get a version in another language?

All documents (the invitation, the kit insert and the information sheet) are available in several languages. You can find the links to the different versions at the bottom of the page under “For more Information”.

However, it is recommended to contact the Coordination Centre to update your file in the language of your choice. This will ensure that you receive all future documents directly in your preferred language.

You can contact them by email or phone using the following details: colorectal@ms.etat.lu

I’m under 45, ans would like to take part in the program.

Only people aged 45 to 74 who are registered with the National Health Fund (Caisse nationale de santé - CNS) are invited to participate in the programme.

For those who are not eligible, the test can still be performed:

  • with a medical prescription, in which case it will be covered by the CNS;
  • upon request at a Bionext laboratory centre, where it can be carried out at the applicant’s own expense.

My neighbour received a test or an invitation, but I did not. Why is that?

If you are between 45 and 74 years old, affiliated with the CNS, and a Luxembourg resident, you will automatically receive your first invitation letter either in the month of your 45th birthday or the following month. After that, an invitation or FIT kit will be sent to you every two years to invite you to participate.

If you are between 45 and 74 years old, affiliated with the CNS, but not a Luxembourg resident, you must contact the Coordination Centre to register for the programme. Once registered, you will receive your first invitation. Afterwards, an invitation or FIT kit will also be sent to you every two years.

I have already had a colonoscopy, and my doctor recommended having another one in … years. However, I received an invitation or a FIT test at home. Should I do it?

When we send out invitations or FIT kits, we do not know the health status of individuals, nor whether they have previously undergone a colonoscopy outside the programme.

If you are under regular gastroenterological follow‑up, with colonoscopies scheduled every x years, the standard screening programme may not be suitable for your situation.

You are not prohibited from completing the FIT test, but it is recommended to seek the advice of your trusted doctor.

We also invite you to complete the form provided with the invitation to inform the Coordination Centre that you are already being monitored. This will help avoid future invitations or FIT kits that would no longer be necessary.

I am not insured with the CNS but with another insurance provider (JSIS or another) and I would like to participate in the PDOCCR. Is it possible?

According to the established procedures, only individuals affiliated with the CNS can participate in the Organised Colorectal Cancer Screening Programme (PDOCCR).

For those who are not eligible, the test can still be performed:

  • with a medical prescription, in which case coverage depends on your insurance provider;
  • upon request at a laboratory centre, where it can be carried out at the applicant’s own expense.

A technical problem occurred while performing the test at home. What should I do?

You can contact the laboratory directly to explain the issue you encountered.

If the FIT kit is considered unusable by the laboratory, a new kit will be sent to you so that you can repeat the test.

I completed the test, sealed the envelope and mailed it, but I forgot to include the identification form. What should I do?

You should inform contact the BIONEXT Call Center at (+352) 27 321 888.

If needed, the laboratory will send you a new kit so you can repeat the test.

I have a history of intestinal polyps; should I take the test?

No.

If you have a history of intestinal polyps, a more tailored medical follow‑up is usually recommended, based on the guidance of your gastroenterologist and your trusted doctor. In this case, the standard screening programme may not be suitable for your situation. For any concerns, it is advisable to follow your specialist’s recommendations and discuss your situation with your doctor.

We also invite you to complete the form provided with the invitation to inform the Coordination Centre that you are already being monitored. This will help avoid future invitations or FIT kits that would no longer be necessary.

When can I post the envelope with my completed test in the mailbox?

Ideally, you should post your envelope from Monday to Thursday, so the laboratory receives it quickly.

It is not recommended to post it the day before a public holiday or just before the weekend, as postal delays may affect the quality of the sample.

Remember to clearly indicate the date on which you performed the test on the identification form, as this information is essential for the analysis.

The toilet paper support tore and I couldn’t perform the test. How can I get a new support?

If the rest of the kit is still usable and you only need a new toilet paper support, you can:

  • go directly to a BIONEXT collection centre, where a new support will be provided;
  • or contact their Call Center (+352) 27 321 888, and they will send you a replacement support.

Where can I find my invitation number (Voucher number)?

Your invitation number (Voucher number) can be found:

  • in the box on the right‑hand side of the first page of your invitation letter;
  • or, if you received the FIT kit directly, at the bottom of the sheet included in the envelope, where your mailing address appears.

If you have lost these documents, you can contact the Coordination Centre, and they will provide you your invitation number.

You can contact the Coordination Centre by phone or email using the following details: colorectal@ms.etat.lu

Where should I keep my test before dropping it off at the laboratory or posting it?

It is recommended to drop off the kit as soon as possible, either:

  • in a postal mailbox,
  • or at a BIONEXT collection centre.

You may keep the test at room temperature for a few hours before sending or dropping it off.

The key is to avoid waiting too long, to ensure the sample remains suitable for analysis.

My kit is damaged or expired. Can I still use it?

No.

A damaged or expired tube can no longer ensure a reliable result, and the laboratory will not be able to process the analysis.

You must therefore obtain a new kit. You can:

  • contact the BIONEXT Call Center at (+352) 27 321 888;
  • go to a BIONEXT collection centre;
  • contact the Coordination Centre at (+352) 247 75550 or by email at colorectal@ms.etat.lu

If you still have your invitation, you may also:

  • request a new kit via MyGuichet, or
  • go to a pharmacy with your invitation to obtain a new kit.

How does the test work?

It is a simple stool blood detection test that you can carry out yourself at home and then send to the laboratory.

The kit includes:

  • all the necessary material to collect the sample,
  • an instruction leaflet,
  • and a prepaid envelope for sending it to the BIONEXT laboratory.

For more details, you can check:

  • the instruction leaflet under the “for more information” section at the bottom of the page,
  • or a video tutorial available in the same section.

How do I receive my results?

Once your test has been analysed by the laboratory, BIONEXT will send you an email or SMS inviting you to log in to their secure application to access your result.

If you do not check your result via the application within 3 working days, a postal letter will automatically be sent to you.

For more information, you can contact the BIONEXT Call Center at: (+352) 27 321 888

I just received my kit. Do I need to do the test immediately?

You do not have to perform the test on the same day you receive the kit. You may do it whenever you wish, as long as you follow the return‑shipping instructions.

It is important to pay attention to when you send the kit back, it is strongly discouraged to post it the day before a public holiday or just before the weekend, as postal delays may affect the quality of the sample.

The FIT kit remains usable until the expiration date indicated on the envelope and on the tube.

Do I need to follow a red meat free diet before doing the test?

No. The test is specific to human blood, so no red‑meat‑free diet is required before taking the test.

My FIT test came back negative. When will I receive the next test?

The screening programme is renewed every 2 years.

If your test result was negative, you will automatically receive your next kit about 23 to 24 months after your last completed test, and this continues until you reach the upper age limit of the programme

My FIT test came back positive, what should I do?

A positive result does not necessarily mean you have cancer.

It simply indicates that blood was detected in your stool. To determine the cause, a diagnostic colonoscopy is usually recommended.

It is important to consult your doctor to decide on the next steps.
