Establishments subject to authorisation

Some establishments in Luxembourg store radioactive substances or use equipment that is capable of emitting ionising radiation. These are mainly:
- hospitals and their nuclear medicine departments;
- research laboratories;
- industrial laboratories.
Public and private organisations also use X-ray equipment to carry out checks on, for example, baggage and mail.
There is a wide range of potential uses for radioactive substances:
- medical treatment and diagnosis;
- tracers in research;
- surface analysis;
- level and thickness controls;
- non-destructive gammagraphy analysis in industry.
