Health and maternity insurance
In Luxembourg, health and maternity insurance guarantees the insured person and their family coverage for healthcare (medical consultations, hospitalisation, medication, etc.) when provided by a legally established provider in the country.
In addition to healthcare coverage, health and maternity insurance also provides cash benefits to compensate for loss of income in the event of:
- illness,
- maternity leave (including prenatal and postnatal leave, exemption from work for pregnant women),
- adoption leave,
- leave for family reasons, to care for a sick child,
- end-of-life care leave.
These benefits are available to employees and self-employed persons (with the exception of end-of-life care leave), whether they are residents or non-residents, provided they are affiliated with the Luxembourg social security system. (See section Affiliation).
