Cross-border workers
People who work in Luxembourg but live in another country (France, Belgium or Germany) are considered cross-border workers. As members of the Luxembourg social security system, they are entitled to the same healthcare benefits in Luxembourg as residents. This equal treatment also applies to their family members, provided that they are not themselves insured in their country of residence
In order to also receive healthcare in their country of residence, specific administrative procedures are necessary to ensure coordination between the Luxembourg social security system and that of the country concerned.
Cross-border workers must, in particular:
- complete the formalities to obtain coverage for healthcare in their country of residence
- follow the procedure laid down in the event of incapacity for work
- find out about the reimbursement arrangements applicable in their country, in particular with regard to any specific national provisions (e.g. supplementary reimbursement for Belgian cross-border workers).
