Information on antibiotics
'Antibiotics: sound the alarm!'
'Héich Zäit Alarm ze schloen! Wann Antibiotiquë bei Mënschen an Déieren net richteg benotzt ginn, kënne sech multiresistent Bakterie bilden. All Joer stierwen dowéinst an der Europäescher Unioun méi wéi 33.000 Mënschen',
'Sound the alarm! The inappropriate use of antibiotics on humans and animals is causing multiresistant bacteria to develop. In the European Union, more than 33,000 people die as a result each year.'
Given the urgent nature of the situation, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Agriculture, Viticulture and Rural Development are relaunching their awareness campaign on human and animal antibiotic use.
To mark European Antibiotic Awareness Day, the Ministry of Health is raising public awareness of the dangers of the overuse of antibiotics in both human and veterinary medicine observed over recent years.

The campaign forms part of the 2018-2022 National Antibiotics Plan which aims to reduce the emergence, development and spread of antibiotic resistance in Luxembourg, and to promote a prudent approach towards using antibiotics.
Therefore, based on the 'One Health' approach, measures have been put in place to monitor antibiotic use both in human and veterinary medicine.
Luxembourg is one of the most modest users of animal antibiotics in Europe. However, there is still work to be done on quality and selecting the most suitable antibiotics.
These awareness measures are relevant to all sectors and stakeholders, including doctors, pharmacists, vets, farmers and the general public.
Additionally, it is important to note that the 2018-2022 National Antibiotics Plan developed by the Ministries of Health and Agriculture, focuses on a range of strategic areas including governance, prevention, education, communication, treatment and diagnosis, as well as monitoring and research. The plan will be assessed at the end of the implementation period.
