Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is the best way to provide your baby with all of the nutrients that are essential for healthy development and growth. The World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF and the Luxembourg Ministry of Health recommend exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months and continued breastfeeding up to the age of 2 and beyond.

The Ministry of Health of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg has followed the WHO recommendations and promotes these principles with its 'National policy to protect, promote and support breastfeeding', signed in 2006.

The promotion of healthy nutrition for babies forms part of the national programme Gesond iessen, méi beweegen (GIMB), for which the second action plan is currently being prepared. The recommendations from this report have been fed into the actions planned for the next few years, designed to promote healthy and balanced nutrition for every baby.
