Pregnancy and maternity
Pregnancy is the phase during which a child develops in a woman's womb, from the point of conception up to birth.
Pregnancy lasts approximately 39 weeks between fertilisation and birth. In gynaecological language, reference is made to the gestation period. It is expressed in terms of weeks of amenorrhoea (lack of periods), or 41 weeks, from the first day of the last period.
