Services included

The law on patients’ rights and obligations pertains to all services provided by a healthcare provider in order to assess, maintain or restore a patient’s state of health. This includes prevention (e.g. screening), drug prescription and dispensing, provision of medication and medical devices, end-of-life care and pain relief.

The law also applies to healthcare services delivered across national boundaries, in the case of telemedicine provided by a healthcare provider established in Luxembourg when the patient is not in Luxembourg.

Services excluded

On the other hand, long-term care services, to assist people in their day-to-day activities in the context of long-term care insurance, fall outside the purview of the law.
