Dry January

What is Dry January®?

A collective and supportive challenge that encourages people to take a one-month break from alcohol. Now a global annual event followed by millions worldwide, it will be officially launched for the first time in Luxembourg on January 1st, 2026.

How does it work?

From January 1st to 31st: no alcohol. It’s an ideal opportunity to reset your relationship with alcohol at the start of the year and beyond. The Try Dry® app and regular motivational emails (by signing up) will keep you inspired every step of the way.

Why take part?

Taking a break from alcohol, even temporarily, has many physical and mental benefits. Participants often report:

  • better quality sleep
  • clearer skin
  • increased energy
  • improved concentration.

Psychologically, many also report improved mood, reduced stress and greater mental clarity.

Dry January® is not recommended for people with addiction issues (who, for example, suffer physical withdrawal symptoms when they stop drinking).

Taking on the Dry January® challenge is also an opportunity to redefine your relationship with alcohol!

Not drinking alcohol for 31 days shows us that we don't need alcohol to have fun, relax or socialise. It helps us develop the skills we need to manage our alcohol consumption. This means that for the rest of the year, we are better able to make decisions about when and how much we drink, allowing us to avoid drinking more than we really want to.

What if you do have a drink?

Don't panic: one slip-up doesn't mean you've failed. Every day without alcohol counts and already brings benefits to your body and mind. That said, taking a complete break for a month is still the best way to fully experience the positive effects.
