Disability pension
Disability pension is a benefit that replaces professional income when an insured person can no longer work normally due to their state of health.
What is disability?
In Luxembourg, a person is considered disabled if, due to a prolonged illness, disability or physical wear and tear, they have lost their ability to work to such an extent that they can no longer perform:
- their last occupation,
- or any other activity suited to their strengths and skills.
Disability pension is granted upon request, often after sick leave entitlements have been exhausted.
To be eligible, the insured person must have met certain insurance conditions. In the event of a partial return to work, the pension may be maintained within certain limits.
The medical condition is assessed by the Social Security Medical Examination Board.
