Vaccination and the internet: how to identify reliable sources

There are many different websites, blogs and forums offering information on vaccinations. Not all of this information is reliable. At the bottom of this page you will find a list of sites that provide information you can rely on.

To make sure you can trust a particular resource, ask yourself the following questions:

  • Who has published the information?
  • Is it an institutional website of a public-interest organisation? Is the party concerned a specialist in this field?
  • What information or studies can be found on the website?
  • Are these studies published in scientific literature?
  • Where does the information come from?
  • Is it a Luxembourg-based or European site?
  • When was it last updated?
  • Is the information updated regularly?
  • What are its aims?
  • What are the aims of the information published?
  • Who is the target audience?
  • How is the information presented?
  • Is the information free of charge?
  • Are the sources cited?
  • Does the information consist of personal accounts or scientific studies?
  • Is the site free of rumours?
  • Is the information reassuring and not alarming?
