Pollen
The number of people who suffer from allergies is on the increase, and the WHO predicts that 50 % of the population will have allergies in 2050. At present, it is estimated that around 20 % of the general population suffers from pollen allergies.
Some pollens can cause allergic reactions – called pollinosis (hay fever) – in the respiratory (nose) and ocular (eyes) mucosa. An allergy is an abnormal reaction of the immune system against an otherwise harmless external substance, such as pollen.
