Amphetamines are products that include certain prescription drugs, but also several other substances manufactured in illegal laboratories.

They are presented in tablet form or as a powder to be snorted or smoked.

Effects

This synthetic drug belongs to the family of stimulants. It increases self-confidence and reduces thirst, hunger and fatigue. It creates a sensation of energy, performance and power. The street name most often associated with amphetamines is 'speed'.

Risks

Amphetamines reduce feelings of hunger and desire to sleep. Consequently, the major risk associated with them is exhaustion.

Amphetamines are also dangerous for anyone with cardiovascular issues or epilepsy.

The effects of amphetamines are followed by a very unpleasant 'down'. They can cause jaw clenching, seizures, anxiety attacks or depression, extending to suicidal thoughts.

Dangerous combinations

Consuming amphetamines at the same time as other drugs is very dangerous. The effects of these different substances are cumulative and amplify each other. Combinations of drugs pose a serious risk to health.
