Signs of drug use

There are many signs that could indicate drug use, but they are not always easy to detect. Additionally, every drug has its own specific effects, and combinations of drugs can produce different effects too. If you know a person, it is easier to detect changes in their behaviour and appearance.

Here are some behavioural and physical signs that are often associated with drug use.

Behavioural signs

  • Sudden change in behaviour
  • Mood swings: bad mood suddenly followed by a happy and cheerful mood
  • Signs of depression and withdrawal
  • Unkempt appearance
  • Sudden lack of interest in favourite hobbies
  • Deterioration in school results
  • Absenteeism from school
  • Red or glassy eyes
  • Dilated or constricted pupils
  • Runny nose
  • Significant weight loss
