Family allowance
The family allowance is a financial benefit to compensate for your family's expenses – i.e. financial costs linked to your child's maintenance and education.
Family allowance is paid at the end of each month.
Eligibility
Your child must be legally domiciled in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, and must live there permanently.
If your child is being raised abroad, and you work in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, your child is also entitled to family allowance, or at least to a portion of it. The amount is allocated on a differential basis. It varies depending on the allowances received in the country in which you live.
Amount of family allowance
The fundamental amount of family allowance is calculated on the basis of the number of children in the family group, and the ages of those children. It is paid by the Caisse pour l’avenir des enfants (Children's Future Fund - CAE).
Family allowance continues to be paid until the child turns 18. By way of compensation, a system of grants and loans is available to students living in the Grand Duchy.
