Medicine in Schools
School health services are provided by school medical and social support teams, which are accredited by the Ministry of Health. In general, accreditation is granted for three years.
The School Health Department (Division de la médecine scolaire) of the Ministry of Health is responsible for organising school health services in post-primary education.
School health services in preschool education, primary education and special needs education are organised by the municipal authorities. Most municipal authorities work closely with healthcare professionals from the Health and Social Welfare League (Ligue médico-sociale).
Dental health monitoring for preschool and primary school children is provided by the school dentistry service of the School Health Department. This is the case in all Luxembourg municipalities that do not have their own dentistry service.
School health services come under the authority of the Chief Medical Officer in the School Health Department of the Health Directorate.
School health services include the following tests and examinations:
- routine screening and check-ups;
- routine medical examinations;
- health check-ups;
- dental examinations.
