Assessing your risk of exposure
Encouraging regular screening and assessment of individual risk
HIV screening: why and how?
By getting yourself screened, you will be protecting your health and the health of others. The HIV screening test is the only way to find out what your serological status is. The test is designed to detect the presence of anti-HIV antibodies in the body. These antibodies can be detected up to three weeks after infection.
When can you be sure that the HIV virus and other STIs can be reliably detected?
The fact that you have no symptoms does not mean that you cannot transmit the HIV virus.
After the high-risk situation and before the test, it is important to take preventive measures (use condoms and/or individual syringes). This time varies depending on the type of screening (see the table below)
How do you go about getting screened?
Screening can be performed in three ways.
