Pink October: 'I'm getting a mammo. And you?'

Every year for the past 40 years, the month of October has been synonymous with the annual 'Pink October' breast cancer awareness campaign worldwide. The Luxembourg Ministry of Health and Social Security actively promotes this campaign, and takes the opportunity to remind citizens of the importance of screening for this form of cancer, which enables the early detection of tumours and therefore saves lives.

Since 1 July 2024, the breast cancer screening programme has been available to women aged 45 to 74 years old, who live in Luxembourg and are registered with the Luxembourg social security system. Every 23 months, the Health Directorate sends all eligible women a personal invitation to take part in the 'Mammogram Programme' by having a mammogram at one of the five approved screening centres in Luxembourg's hospitals.

Funds will also be raised to support cancer patients and their families.
