Board of Veterinary Surgeons

The Board of Veterinary Surgeons (Collège vétérinaire) is composed of veterinarians' elected representatives.

Composition

The Board has six standing members and six alternate members. On commencing their term of office, members must be at least 30 years old and no more than 72 years old.

Remit

The Board is tasked with:

  • protecting the reputation of veterinarians, and upholding and defending the principles of dignity, probity, discretion and competency that veterinarians are expected to adhere to;
  • ensuring adherence to the ethical rules that apply to veterinarians;
  • examining all matters regarding the profession, animal health and the safety of products of animal origin that the government refers to the Board, or which the Board deems useful to examine;
  • issuing opinions on draft laws and regulations concerning the veterinary profession, the health and well-being of animals and the safety of products of animal origin.
