National Health Laboratory
The National Health Laboratory (Laboratoire national de santé - LNS) is a public-sector organisation that operates under the authority of the Ministry of Health and Social Security.
Remit
The LNS is tasked with:
- conducting scientific testing and analyses in connection with the prevention, diagnosis and follow-up of human diseases;
- fulfilling the role of a national control or benchmark laboratory;
- providing forensic analysis services.
Areas of activity
The LNS is a public-sector organisation that provides services in connection with the diagnosis, monitoring and prevention of human diseases. It performs the functions of a national benchmark laboratory in a number of areas, and provides expert testing and analysis services for matters relating to public health.
The LNS works mainly in the following areas:
- cancer;
- Infectious diseases;
- toxicology;
- the control of medicinal products;
- metabolic and hereditary diseases;
- biological and environmental monitoring; and
- food safety.
