Funding for research physicians

Objectives

Funding for research physicians is designed to co-finance the salary of a research physician in order to:

  • facilitate recruitment and create a more attractive option for research physicians who are qualified in different areas of clinical therapy who would like to continue or take up a career in health research;
  • support these research physicians to make them more competitive at national and international level with the aim of attracting grants and subsidies;
  • support the continuation and advancement of clinical research;
  • improve the prospects for patients in Luxembourg to access the latest findings from clinical research as early as possible.

Research fields

The eligible research fields are chronic diseases, including:

  • Cardiovascular diseases,
  • Chronic pulmonary diseases,
  • Metabolic diseases (diabetes),
  • Cancer and neurodegenerative diseases.

Clinical studies in the following areas are also eligible:

  • Innovation in the processes for managing these diseases, including
  • Studies on the clinical usefulness of medical devices (including medical software) with a real benefit for the patient, in terms of management, treatment or quality of life.

National and international co-financing

The co-funding of projects with national or international agencies/institutions and with industry is possible, and even desirable, via cooperation agreements defining each partner's contribution and participation in the end results.

Finalisation of the project

To be submitted electronically to recherche@ms.etat.lu:

  • Progress reports (to be submitted annually at each year-end),
  • An interim report (to be submitted at the halfway point of the research project),
  • A final report (no later than 90 days after the end of the research project or no later than after 4 financial years).

The final report should be written in French, German, Luxembourgish or English, using the report template provided by the Ministry of Health.
