Hospital-based clinical research programme

Objectives

The clinical research programme (PRC) is a programme of topic-based research spanning several years.

Its main objectives are to promote scientific research in the area of health and to raise both the number and the scientific quality of clinical studies in Luxembourg. The PRC is aimed at clinical trials that are of real interest to patients and provide solutions or applications to problems that healthcare professionals encounter in their daily clinical work. The programme aspires to support innovative initiatives by clinicians in Luxembourg.

The programme aims to contribute to the following:

  • financing of high-quality clinical research of interest to patients and clinicians, generating new knowledge and peer-reviewed scientific journals;
  • development of a solid clinical research base in Luxembourg, creating a lasting and sustainable medical and socio-economic contribution;
  • development of clinical research and innovation on the part of hospitals and other players in the healthcare system;
  • training of clinical researchers and boosting of researcher numbers in biomedical fields.

Research fields

The eligible research fields are chronic diseases, including:

  • cardiovascular diseases,
  • chronic pulmonary diseases,
  • metabolic diseases (diabetes),
  • cancer and neurodegenerative diseases.

Clinical studies in the following areas are also eligible:

  • innovation in the processes for managing these diseases, including
  • studies on the clinical usefulness of medical devices (including medical software) with a real benefit for the patient, in terms of management, treatment or quality of life.

National and international co-financing

The co-funding of projects with national or international agencies/institutions and with industry is possible, and even desirable, via cooperation agreements defining each partner's contribution and participation in the end results.

Finalisation of the project

  • A progress report at the halfway point of the research project, and
  • a final report should be sent to the Health Directorate (Direction de la santé) no later than 90 days after the research project ends for all projects lasting longer than 10 months.
  • For shorter projects, a final report should be sent to the Health Directorate no later than 90 days after the project ends.
