Objectives and scope of PHRESH
PHRESH is a national programme launched in January 2025 for a four-year period. Its goal is to strengthen infectious disease surveillance in Luxembourg by:
- accelerating the digitalization of surveillance processes;
- improving data quality, speed, and interoperability;
- facilitating early detection of health signals;
- formalizing collaboration between public-health surveillance stakeholders;
- integrating a One Health approach linking human, animal, and environmental health.
The project covers all notifiable diseases and is designed to be interoperable with European surveillance systems.
Expected results and impact
PHRESH is designed to deliver gradual impacts in the short, medium, and long term:
Short term:
- more efficient data collection and sharing;
- greater awareness among the public and health professionals;
- compliance with international obligations in health surveillance.
Medium term:
- comprehensive, cross-sector surveillance;
- stronger detection of emerging health threats;
- better understanding of disease transmission dynamics.
Long term:
- full alignment with international surveillance standards;
- a central pillar of a responsive and adaptable national health system;
- proactive decision-making and optimal use of resources;
- lasting interdisciplinary collaboration in public health.
