Dental amalgam - National Plan 2023
National plan for the gradual reduction of the use of dental amalgamPursuant to Article 3 of the Law of 16 May 2019 on certain implementing measures and the penalties of Regulation (EU) 2017/852 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 17 May 2017 on mercury, the Health Directorate has established, in cooperation with the sector concerned, a national plan relating to the measures to be applied to gradually eliminate the use of dental amalgams.
Objectives
The plan's objectives are:
- lifelong prevention of tooth decay,
- easy access to treatments with mercury-free materials,
- objective communication on the risks and alternatives to reduce the use of dental amalgam, and
- professional management of amalgam waste to prevent contamination of the environment.
- The plan also lays down measures to support its implementation and evaluation.
