The National Health Observatory
The National Health Observatory (Observatoire national de la santé) is an administrative body under the authority of the Minister of Health.
However, the National Health Observatory enjoys scientific and professional independence in relation to its observation tools, its findings and its proposals.
The National Health Observatory's purpose is to provide guidance for health decisions and policies, and to assess their impact by pooling data (health status, health determinants, non-monetary resources and use of the healthcare system).
In other words, the Observatory is charged with producing usable information from the available data and putting that information into perspective (historical comparisons, international benchmarking) in order to identify potential avenues for improvement.
The Law of 2 March 2021 creating a National Health Observatory sets out the Observatory's missions, governance procedures and internal organisation.
