Documentation and Classification of Hospital Stays (DCSH)
In 2016, the Ministry of Health and Social Security introduced the Documentation and Classification of Hospital Stays (Documentation et classification des séjours hospitaliers - DCSH) system to provide structured hospital-related documentation. Within this system, it is possible to describe the activity of hospitals, and classify patient stays in hospital into uniform groups.
The main aim of the DCSH is to improve transparency and optimise the quality of hospital care provided in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. To achieve this, dedicated documentation and medical information departments were established in all hospitals. These teams collect essential data in standardised form, with a view to improving the planning and organisation of the healthcare system.
By shedding light on what resources are needed to maintain high quality in care, the DCSH system provides reliable data that allows informed decisions to be made about the management and assessment of healthcare policies.
