Gum disease
As time goes by, we tend to neglect seeing a dentist. Which is a pity, because it is not normal for seniors to lose teeth. Tooth loss could be due to diseases of the periodontium, which is all of the tissues that support the teeth.
With age, gum disease and bone infections occur more frequently. These infections are not painful, but they can have serious consequences. If untreated, our teeth can fall out. Here are a few tips for checking and looking after our teeth.
Take preventive action
- Brush your teeth at least twice a day. Good dental hygiene prevents cavities and keeps your gums healthy.
- When brushing, perform rotating movements on your teeth.
- Use interdental brushes or dental floss to remove interdental plaque.
- See your dentist every year. They will check the condition of your teeth and gums. If a lot of tartar has built up, they will clean and polish your teeth.
- Consult your dentist if your gums bleed when you brush your teeth.
- A balanced diet will also help you to keep your teeth healthy.
- If you wear braces, consult your dentist regularly so that they can be adjusted. Indeed, as you age, your jaw changes. If your braces are not adjusted, they can cause painful mouth lesions, which can make eating uncomfortable.
