To encourage people to stay in their own homes, the Ministry of Family Affairs and Integration has published a 'Practical Guide for Seniors', which includes the local and home care services that are available in Luxembourg. These services include:

  • meals-on-wheels;
  • on-call external assistance services;
  • home help and care services.

The aim of these services is to make certain everyday tasks easier for elderly, dependent people, and to enable them to continue living at home in their usual living environment.

Meals-on-wheels

The municipal authorities organise or coordinate the meals-on-wheels service. The meals-on-wheels service is a paid-for service whereby hot, balanced lunchtime meal are delivered to the homes of elderly people who can't or don't want to cook for themselves.

'Télé-Alarme' – On-call external assistance

'Télé-Alarme' is a paid, on-call, communication, assistance and emergency relief service intended for isolated individuals. It operates 24 hours a day, all year round.

This service provides individuals with an alarm in the form of a bracelet or necklace. The alarm is triggered simply by pressing a button.

The call goes through to a switchboard that takes the necessary steps to call a doctor, an assistance and care network, a neighbour, or a family member, as required.
