Sports and leisure

Some sports are more dangerous than others. However, in all sports, proper supervision and wearing protective gear reduce the risk of serious accidents.

Precautions for cyclists

  • Wear a suitable helmet.
  • Choose a good quality, EC-certified (EN1078) helmet.
  • Follow the instructions to adjust it so that it fits properly:

    • The helmet should be worn in a horizontal position, two finger widths from the top of your nose, not too far down your forehead and not too far down the back of your neck.
    • The strap should go under your chin, without being too tight (you should be able to fit a finger between your chin and the strap), but tight enough that the helmet stays in place.
    • The strap should for a triangle around each ear.

  • The helmet should not get tighter or move if you shake your head.
  • Try it before you buy it.
  • Replace the helmet after a heavy impact.

Precautions for skiers

  • Wear a suitable helmet:

    • Look out for the EN 1077 European safety mark.
    • The helmet must be the right size:
comfortable to wear, even with ski goggles, but not too big.
    • With the chinstrap undone, it must not move if you shake your head.

  • On the slopes, the chinstrap must always be done up.
  • When buying a helmet, ask a specialist salesperson for advice.
