Choosing a professional

Finding a company

Please note that the Radiation Protection Division (Division de la radioprotection - DRP) does not guarantee the services provided by the building professionals and architects included in the list of building professionals and architects.

If you are choosing a company to carry out remedial work further to discovering elevated levels of radon in your home or workplace, we recommend discussing the following points with the building professionals:

  • ventilation system warranty and maintenance, if a radon sump is being installed;
  • the cost of the associated ventilation system, and of operating a radon sump;
  • the noise made by the ventilation system. Consider placing the ventilation system as far away from your bedrooms as possible, so that the noise from the system does not cause a disturbance at the night (this also applies to the sump);
  • measures to be taken in the event that additional remedial work is needed and, if applicable, the associated costs.

Once the remedial work has been completed, the following points should be noted:

  • monitoring the concentration of radon in the air is recommended after the remedial work has been completed; the DRP offers free radon testing for private homes;
  • remedial measures are generally effective, but additional work may be required in the future to reduce radon concentrations in the air;
  • monitor the installed system to ensure it is functioning properly.

It is important to remember that any significant reduction in radon levels will reduce your risk of developing lung cancer, even if the level does not fall below 300 Bq/m3.

A list of building professionals was drawn up in 2017, following a training course organised by the DRP. This list is regularly updated.
