What is it?

A transdermal device that delivers nicotine through the skin.

Risks

Skin reactions

  • Redness
  • Itching or irritation at the application site are quite common.

Side effects related to nicotine

  • Headaches
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Palpitations may occur, especially if the dosage is not appropriate.

Withdrawal

  • When the patch is removed, withdrawal symptoms (irritability, anxiety) may occur if nicotine dependence is strong.

Overdose

  • Using several patches at the same time or applying a patch with too high a dosage can cause a nicotine overdose (serious symptoms such as severe nausea, rapid heartbeat, etc.).

Contraindications

  • Avoid use in pregnant women, people with certain heart conditions or skin allergies, unless advised by a doctor.
