Nicotine inhalers

What is it?

A device that simulates the act of smoking.

Risks

Addiction

  • Like other nicotine substitutes, they contain nicotine, so there is a risk of addiction, especially if used beyond the recommended duration.

Local irritation

  • Sore throat, coughing, mouth tingling or dryness are fairly common side effects.
  • Irritation of the lips or mouth, especially with prolonged or incorrect use.

Effects related to nicotine

  • In case of misuse (too frequent or too high a dose):
  • Palpitations
  • Nausea
  • Headaches
  • Anxiety, insomnia
  • Dizziness

Incorrect use

  • Inhalers should not be inhaled like a cigarette; nicotine is absorbed mainly through the oral mucosa, not through the lungs.

Contraindications

  • Use with caution in people at cardiovascular risk, pregnant or breastfeeding women, unless recommended by a doctor.
  • Not recommended for non-smokers or young people.
