Practical tips to help you succeed
- Eat fruit and vegetables every day.
- Avoid snacking between meals.
- Eat 3 meals a day and avoid fatty and sugary foods.
- Drink water if you feel the urge to smoke.
- Avoid drinking strong coffee or tea.
- Drink alcohol in moderation.
- Chew sugar-free gum if you get the urge to smoke a cigarette.
- Do 30 minutes of physical activity each day.
- If necessary, learn some relaxation exercises.
- Make sure you get regular and sufficient sleep.
- Decide on the day when you will stop smoking and talk to your family about it: 31 May (World No Tobacco Day), 1 January or your birthday.
- Remove any ashtrays and cigarettes from your home.
