Musculoskeletal disorders & Ergonomics

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are among the most common occupational illnesses. They affect a large number of employees.

Occupational musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) primarily affect the back, neck, shoulders and upper limbs, but also the lower limbs. They include injuries or problems with joints and other tissues. Health problems include minor aches, as well as more serious disorders that require medical treatment or time off from work. In the case of more chronic conditions, they can even result in disability or inability to work.

Most occupational MSDs develop over time. They generally have more than one cause. Most of the time, the risk factors are multiple and cumulative. The most relevant factors are physical and biomechanical factors, organisational factors, and psychosocial factors, combined with individual predispositions.
