'e-PIL' pilot project

The 'e-PIL' project was initiated by the pharmaceutical industry associations in Luxembourg (Association pharmaceutique luxembourgeoise) and Belgium (pharma.be), with the support of the Luxembourgish and Belgian Ministries of Health. This pilot project has also been validated by the European Commission.

 'PIL' stands for 'patient information leaflet'. This is the leaflet that is found inside the packaging of every medicinal product.

The aim of the 'e-PIL' pilot project is to determine, over a period of 24 months, the pros and cons of replacing the paper version of the patient information leaflet with an electronic version.

This pilot project is limited to medicinal products reserved for use in hospital environments.
