‘Pink October’ 2026: 8 women, 8 stories

Every year, October marks Pink October, the global breast cancer awareness campaign. The Ministry of Health and Social Security is actively involved in this campaign and emphasises the importance of screening, which enables breast cancer to be detected at an early stage, thereby increasing the chances of recovery.

Eight women, eight stories about mammograms

This year, the campaign gives a voice to eight women who have agreed to share their experiences of mammograms. Through a series of video testimonials and posters displayed throughout Luxembourg, they recount their journeys, their fears, their motivations and the importance they now attach to screening.

By highlighting these genuine testimonies, the campaign reminds us that behind every mammogram there is a woman, a story and loved ones. It aims to encourage eligible women to take part in the Mammography Programme, the national organised breast cancer screening programme for women aged between 45 and 74. Carried out every two years, this screening enables the detection of potential cancer at an early stage, when the chances of recovery are highest.

Awareness-raising activities across the country

Throughout October, the Health Directorate will also be present at numerous information stands in hospitals, shopping centres and at several markets across Luxembourg. The teams on hand will answer members of the public’s questions, present the Mammography Programme and distribute information materials.

These initiatives are organised in collaboration with a number of partners committed to the fight against breast cancer, including the Cancer Foundation, Europa Donna Luxembourg and Think Pink Luxembourg.
