World Diabetes Day

Do you think you might be at risk of developing type 2 diabetes?

From 11 to 21 November 2026, pharmacists (Pdf - 109 Kb) will be on hand to assess your risk of diabetes and answer any questions you may have.

- Are you aged 45 or over?

- Are you aged 35 and have :

• a family history of diabetes,
• gestational diabetes,
• high blood pressure or high cholesterol, or
• cardiovascular disease?

- Are you interested?

If so, ask your trusted pharmacist, or visit any other pharmacy displaying the World Diabetes Day flag outside!

To have your diabetes risk assessed on the spot, please ensure you have fasted for at least 2 hours beforehand. It will only take a few minutes!

This national awareness campaign is organised in partnership with the Health Directorate, pharmacists and the ALD.

Several events are taking place throughout November :

Evening of talks entitled ‘Early Action Against Diabetes’

On Tuesday 10 November 2026 from 6.00 pm, the ALD is organising an evening of talks entitled ‘Early Action Against Diabetes’ at the Hôtel Parc Belle-Vue (5, avenue Marie-Thérèse, Luxembourg).

An exhibition with information stands will precede the talks, which will begin at 7.00 pm.

On the programme: screening for type 1 diabetes, prevention and physical activity. The talks will be held in French and Luxembourgish, with simultaneous interpretation.

10 000 steps ‘with or without diabetes’ 

As part of World Diabetes Day, the Luxembourg Diabetes Association (ALD) is organising its annual ‘10,000 Schrëtt’ event. This year, the ALD and the “Gehansbiergknappen 75 Butscheburg” invite you to take 10,000 steps, with or without diabetes, on 14 November in Dudelange.

• When? 14 November, Start: 8.00 am – 1.00 pm, Check-in closes: 5.00 pm
• Entry fee: €1.50

The route: IVV-marked routes: 5 and 10 km, family rally on the 5 km route, checkpoints with refreshments, diabetes information stand with risk assessment, “Fitness Buffet.

Hospitals are also getting involved:

• Hôpitaux Robert Schuman (HRS): information stand on Tuesday 10 November 2026 from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm in Kirchberg
• Centre Hospitalier du Nord (CHdN): information stands on Friday 13 November 2026 from 1.00 pm to 3.00 pm in Wiltz and on Monday 16 November 2026 from 1.00 pm to 4.00 pm in Ettelbruck.
• Luxembourg Hospital Centre (CHL): the ObediaKids team is organising a children’s drawing competition, ‘Draw me your diabetes’, with a prize-giving ceremony on Tuesday 10 November 2026 at 6.00 pm in the Maternity Ward meeting room.
• Emile Mayrisch Hospital (CHEM): a prevention stand will be set up in the entrance hall on Friday 13 November 2026 from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm, staffed by a nurse and a dietitian.
